▌PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

>> SEE EVERY SIGNAL. EVERY FREQUENCY. EVERYWHERE. <<

The air around you is screaming. WiFi, Bluetooth, cellular, ISM, amateur radio, 5G, interference, harmonics, spurious emissions, signals you didn’t even know were there. You just can’t see them.

Until now.

The Sysjoint SSA463 is a portable, battery-powered spectrum analyzer covering 35MHz to 6.3GHz in a rugged aluminum package that weighs less than a can of soda. Sweep the entire usable RF spectrum from MF through UHF and well into microwave territory. Visualize signal strength, identify interference, test antennas, hunt rogue emitters, verify coverage, and analyze modulated, broadband, and narrowband signals anywhere you can carry it.

This is not a tinySA. This is not a toy. The SSA463 is built on a swept super-heterodyne architecture with a high-performance RF front end, high-linearity logarithmic amplification, a low-noise local oscillator, and advanced IF processing. It delivers signal analysis capability that approaches desktop-class instruments in a unit you can throw in a bag and take to the field.

Three RBW modes for three jobs. 2MHz gives you fast, wide sweeps to identify what’s out there. 250kHz balances speed and resolution for general-purpose analysis. 15kHz gives you ultra-fine resolution for narrowband signals, weak emissions, and precision measurements. Switch manually with one key press, or let Auto mode handle it.

Built-in signal generator. The SSA463 isn’t just a receiver. It outputs test signals from 12.5MHz to 6.4GHz at up to +10dBm. Test filter responses, verify antenna performance, inject reference signals, and characterize components without carrying a separate signal source. One instrument. Both directions.

30dB precision attenuator. Strong signals kill front ends. The SSA463’s built-in attenuator handles up to +15dBm input, protecting the mixer and LNA from overload. Adjustable in 1dB steps for precise measurement flexibility. No external attenuator pad needed for most field work.

Waterfall mode. Standard spectrum views show you what’s happening right now. Waterfall shows you what’s happening over time. Intermittent signals, frequency hoppers, burst transmissions, and time-varying interference patterns become visible as color-coded traces scrolling across the display. If it was there and then it wasn’t, the waterfall caught it.

What’s in the box:

  • SSA463 Spectrum Analyzer (4000mAh battery, 4.3″ IPS touchscreen)
  • SMA-SMA barrel connector
  • 2x 30cm ALSR100 SMA cables

Ready out of the box. Charge it, power it on, connect an antenna, and start seeing what’s really in the air around you.

The spectrum doesn’t lie. Now you can read it.

▌README.TXT – GETTING STARTED

Step 1: Charge Connect the included USB Type-C cable to the charging port on the bottom of the unit. The charging indicator LED will illuminate. Charge fully before first use. A full charge provides 5-6 hours of continuous operation.

Step 2: Power On Slide the red power switch on the bottom of the unit to the ON position. The 4.3″ IPS display will initialize and present the main spectrum view.

Step 3: Connect Your Antenna or Signal Source Attach the included antenna (or your own antenna/cable) to the SMA RF input port on the side of the unit. For signal generator output, use the MCX RF output port.

Step 4: Set Your Frequency Range Use the touchscreen or rotary knob to set your center frequency and span. The unit keys (k, M, G) correspond to kHz, MHz, and GHz. For a full-span sweep, set the start frequency to 35MHz and stop frequency to 6.3GHz.

Step 5: Select RBW Press the RBW button to cycle through 2MHz (fast), 250kHz (balanced), or 15kHz (fine). For initial signal hunting, start with 2MHz for speed. Narrow down to 250kHz or 15kHz once you’ve identified a signal of interest.

Step 6: Analyze Use the touchscreen to place markers on peaks of interest. Access the Marker Table to view frequency, power, and relative differences at a glance. Switch to Waterfall mode for time-domain visualization of dynamic signals.

PRO TIP: When testing antennas, use the built-in signal generator as your source: connect the MCX output to your antenna under test through a known cable, and observe the return/response on the SMA input. One-box antenna analysis without a second instrument.

▌DEBUG LOG – TROUBLESHOOTING

ISSUE: Display shows noise floor only / no signals visible. FIX: Confirm an antenna or signal source is connected to the SMA input. Check that your frequency range is set to cover the signals you’re looking for (a 2.4GHz WiFi signal won’t appear if you’re swept from 35-500MHz). Increase the reference level or reduce attenuation if the noise floor is too high to see weak signals. Try the included whip antenna outdoors for a quick sanity check. You should see cellular, FM broadcast, and other ambient RF immediately.

ISSUE: Signals appear clipped or distorted at the top of the display. FIX: The input signal is overloading the front end. Increase the attenuator setting in 1dB steps until the signal fits within the display’s amplitude range. The built-in 30dB attenuator handles up to +15dBm. If you’re measuring a transmitter output directly, always use appropriate external attenuation to stay below the max input rating.

ISSUE: Weak signals not visible even with attenuator at 0dB. FIX: Switch to 15kHz RBW for maximum sensitivity. The narrower the resolution bandwidth, the lower the noise floor, and the more visible weak signals become. Also check your cable and connectors for loss. Every dB of cable loss reduces your effective sensitivity.

ISSUE: Waterfall display appears frozen or blank. FIX: Waterfall mode requires continuous sweeping to populate. If the sweep time is very long (narrow RBW + wide span), the waterfall will update slowly. Narrow your span or increase RBW to speed up the sweep rate. Confirm the display mode is set to Waterfall, not just standard trace view.

ISSUE: Signal generator output not detected by external equipment. FIX: The signal generator outputs from the MCX port, not the SMA input. Confirm you’re connecting to the correct port. Use an MCX-to-SMA adapter or cable if your test setup requires SMA. Verify the output frequency and power level are set appropriately for your receiving equipment.

ISSUE: Battery drains faster than expected. FIX: The 4000mAh battery is rated for 5-6 hours of continuous use. High screen brightness, continuous fast sweeping, and active signal generator output will reduce runtime. Dim the display and disable the signal generator when not in use to conserve power. Charge via USB Type-C between sessions.

ISSUE: Touchscreen is unresponsive or inaccurate. FIX: Use the included stylus for precise touch input. Fingers work but may be less accurate on the 4.3″ display, especially for small controls. The rotary knob on the bottom provides an alternative input method for frequency and parameter adjustment. If the touchscreen is completely unresponsive, power cycle the unit.

▌SYS.WARN – WARNINGS, HAZARDS & DISCLAIMERS

Maximum Input Power. The RF input can withstand a maximum of +15dBm with the internal attenuator engaged. Do NOT exceed this rating. Connecting a transmitter output, amplifier, or other high-power RF source directly to the input without appropriate external attenuation will permanently damage the front-end mixer and LNA. Always know the power level of the signal you’re measuring before connecting it to this instrument. Use external attenuators, directional couplers, or power splitters when measuring transmitter outputs.

Not a Transmitter (but it has a signal generator). The built-in signal generator outputs RF energy from the MCX port. While the output level (+10dBm max) is low, it is still an intentional RF emission. The user is responsible for ensuring that signal generator use complies with all applicable FCC regulations and local laws regarding intentional RF emissions. Do not connect the signal generator to an antenna and broadcast without proper authorization.

Intended Use. The SSA463 is a test and measurement instrument intended for use by RF engineers, technicians, radio enthusiasts, students, and technical hobbyists for the purposes of spectrum analysis, signal identification, antenna testing, interference hunting, EMC pre-scanning, and RF education. It is a receive-and-measure device. Do not use this instrument to intercept, decode, or demodulate private communications. Unauthorized interception of radio communications is illegal under federal law (18 U.S.C. § 2511) and may result in criminal prosecution.

Regulatory Compliance. This instrument operates as a receiver across a wide frequency range that includes licensed, unlicensed, and restricted bands. Receiving and observing signals on these frequencies for test and measurement purposes is generally lawful, but the user is solely responsible for understanding and complying with all applicable regulations in their jurisdiction.

Electrostatic Discharge. The SMA and MCX connectors provide a direct path to sensitive RF front-end components. Handle connectors with care and avoid static discharge into the ports. Use proper grounding practices in ESD-sensitive environments.

Battery Safety. This device contains an internal 4000mAh lithium battery. Do not expose to temperatures above 140°F / 60°C. Do not puncture, crush, or disassemble the enclosure. Do not charge with a charger other than a standard USB Type-C power source. If the battery appears swollen or the device emits unusual heat or odor, discontinue use immediately and contact Rabbit-Labs support.

Not a Toy. This is a precision electronic test instrument. Keep out of reach of children. Not intended for users under the age of 13.
