▌PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

>> TWO BANDS. ONE MODULE. EVERY WiFi SIGNAL IN THE BUILDING. <<

The 2.4 GHz band is crowded. The 5 GHz band is where the real traffic moved. If your receive chain only covers one, you’re listening to half the conversation. The other half is happening right next to you, and you’re deaf to it.

The Rabbit-Labs DoubleAgent™ is a dual-frequency low noise amplifier built to pull weak signals out of the noise floor on both primary wireless bands simultaneously. 2.4 GHz to 2.5 GHz on one input. 5.0 GHz to 5.945 GHz on the other. Both amplified by 30 dB and combined to a single RF output. Two ears. One brain. Nothing gets past it.

This isn’t a generic wideband preamp that covers everything and excels at nothing. The DoubleAgent is band-optimized with dedicated input paths for each frequency range and noise figures so low they barely register: 0.9 dB at 2.4 GHz and 1.6 dB at 5.8 GHz. That means the signals you care about get amplified. The noise you don’t gets left on the floor.

Built for the field, not the lab bench. The DoubleAgent ships in a machined aluminum alloy enclosure with proper RF shielding, thermal dissipation, and mounting holes for permanent installation. This is not a bare PCB rattling around in your go-bag. It’s field-ready hardware designed to bolt onto a mast, mount inside an enclosure, or ride shotgun on a mobile rig.

Applications that matter:

Wardriving. Mount the DoubleAgent between your dual-band antenna and your capture device. Suddenly every AP within range, on both bands, lights up on your scan. Networks that were too far, too faint, or buried behind concrete walls appear on your map. If you’re running a Rabbit-Labs Wardriver, this is the front-end upgrade that turns a good scanner into a great one.

Drone Detection. Drone control links operate on 2.4 GHz. FPV video feeds run on 5.8 GHz. The DoubleAgent covers both, making it ideal as a receive-path preamp for drone detection systems and Remote ID monitoring setups. See the control channel and the video feed from a single amplifier.

WiFi Security Auditing. Penetration testers and wireless security professionals need visibility across both bands to get the full picture of a target environment. The DoubleAgent ensures your SDR or monitoring adapter captures everything: legacy 2.4 GHz clients, modern 5 GHz infrastructure, rogue access points, and everything in between.

RF Research & Lab Work. Clean, low-noise amplification across both ISM bands in a shielded, enclosed module. Ideal for antenna characterization, propagation testing, or any bench setup that needs reliable dual-band receive amplification.

Two bands. 30 dB of gain. Sub-1 dB noise figure on 2.4. The DoubleAgent hears it all.

▌README.TXT – INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Compatibility: The DoubleAgent is a receive-path dual-band LNA with dedicated inputs for 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands, and a single combined RF output. It is compatible with any 50-Ohm receiver, SDR, or monitoring device.

Step 1: Inspect Remove the module from packaging. Inspect all three SMA connectors (2.4G input, 5.8G input, RF output) for shipping damage or debris.

Step 2: Connect Antennas Connect your 2.4 GHz antenna to the port labeled 2.4G_RFIN. Connect your 5.8 GHz antenna to the port labeled 5.8G_RFIN. Use dual-band antennas with a splitter, or dedicated single-band antennas for each port. For best performance, use separate antennas matched to each band.

Step 3: Connect Output Connect the RF-OUT port to your receiver, SDR, or capture device using a quality 50-Ohm coaxial cable with SMA connectors.

Step 4: Apply Power Connect a DC power supply (5-30V) to the power input terminals (GND and V+). The module draws approximately 160 mA at 12V. A 12V supply is recommended for standard operation. The wide input voltage range (5-30V) allows powering from USB battery banks (with a boost converter), vehicle power systems, or bench supplies.

Step 5: Receive Power on your receiver or SDR. You should see immediate improvement in signal-to-noise ratio across both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Adjust your receiver’s gain settings as needed to avoid ADC overload in dense signal environments.

PRO TIP: For wardriving, mount the DoubleAgent as close to your antennas as possible, ideally on the same mast or magnetic mount base. Run the longer cable from the RF-OUT to your capture device inside the vehicle. Every foot of cable between the antenna and the LNA costs you signal. Every foot of cable after the LNA is almost free, because the amplified signal easily overcomes cable loss.

▌DEBUG LOG – TROUBLESHOOTING

ISSUE: Only one band is being amplified / no signal on 2.4G or 5.8G. FIX: Verify that you have antennas connected to both input ports (2.4G_RFIN and 5.8G_RFIN). An unconnected input will show no signal on that band. Also confirm your receiver is tuned to a frequency within the band that appears dead. The 2.4G path covers 2.4-2.5 GHz only, and the 5.8G path covers 5.0-5.945 GHz only. Frequencies outside these windows will not be amplified.

ISSUE: Receiver is overloaded / signals clipping in dense environments. FIX: 30 dB of gain in a populated area with dozens of access points can saturate a sensitive receiver. Add a 6-10 dB attenuator between the RF-OUT and your receiver. Alternatively, reduce RF gain in your SDR software. This is especially common in urban wardriving where AP density is high.

ISSUE: Noise floor seems elevated / SNR not improving. FIX: Check your DC power supply. Noisy switch-mode supplies and long, unshielded power leads inject interference directly into the amplifier chain. Try a clean battery source or a linear regulator. Also inspect all coaxial connections for tightness. A loose SMA at 5 GHz is essentially an unintentional antenna.

ISSUE: Reduced performance on 5.8 GHz band compared to 2.4 GHz. FIX: This is expected. The noise figure is higher on the 5.8 GHz path (1.6 dB vs 0.9 dB), and cable loss increases significantly with frequency. Use the shortest, lowest-loss cable possible on the 5.8G input. At 5.8 GHz, even 12 inches of RG-316 eats measurable signal. LMR-195 or better is recommended.

ISSUE: Module gets warm during extended field sessions. FIX: The aluminum enclosure is designed to dissipate heat. Ensure airflow around the module and avoid enclosing it in insulated spaces. For vehicle-mounted setups in direct sun, provide shade or ventilation. The wide supply voltage range allows running at lower voltages to reduce thermal output if heat is a concern.

ISSUE: Intermittent signal dropouts during mobile operation. FIX: Check all SMA connections for tightness. Vibration from vehicle movement can loosen hand-tight connections over time. Use an SMA torque wrench (5 in-lbs) for mobile installations. Also verify your power supply is stable under vehicle electrical load (engine start, AC compressor cycling, etc.).
