▌README.TXT – USAGE
It’s a battery. You probably know how to use one.
Positive terminal (raised nub) goes to the positive contact (+). Flat negative terminal goes to the negative contact (-). If the device doesn’t turn on, flip them around.
For best results:
- Replace all cells in a device at the same time. Don’t mix old and new batteries in the same device.
- Don’t mix ProCell Constant with batteries from other brands or product lines, even other Duracell products. Different cells with different internal resistances in the same device cause uneven discharge and reduced performance.
- Don’t mix alkaline cells with rechargeable (NiMH/NiCd) or lithium cells.
- Remove batteries from devices that will be stored unused for extended periods to prevent potential leakage.
Constant vs. Intense: If you’re looking at the ProCell lineup and wondering which one to buy: Constant is for low-drain, long-duration devices (sensors, remotes, detectors, keypads). Intense is for high-drain, peak-power devices (electronic locks, motorized dispensers, high-powered flashlights). If your device sits there quietly drawing milliamps, Constant is your cell. If your device fires motors or solenoids, that’s Intense territory.
▌DEBUG LOG – TROUBLESHOOTING
ISSUE: Battery appears dead out of the box / device won’t power on. FIX: Check the date code on the cell. ProCell Constant has a 12-year shelf life, but all alkaline cells can occasionally have manufacturing defects. Verify the cell voltage with a multimeter (should read 1.5V or very close). If the cell reads significantly below 1.5V unused, it may be defective. Contact Rabbit-Labs for a replacement. Also confirm correct polarity in the device.
ISSUE: Battery leaks or shows white crystal residue on the terminals. FIX: Alkaline batteries can leak potassium hydroxide (a caustic substance) if left in a device that fully drains them, if stored in extreme heat, or if past their expiration date. Remove the battery immediately. Clean the device’s battery contacts with a cotton swab dipped in white vinegar or lemon juice to neutralize the alkaline residue, followed by a dry wipe. Dispose of the leaking battery properly. Do not touch leaked battery fluid with bare skin. If contact occurs, flush with water immediately.
ISSUE: Battery life seems shorter than expected. FIX: The ProCell Constant is optimized for low-drain devices. If you’re using it in a high-drain device (motorized lock, high-output flashlight, audio transmitter), it will deplete faster than expected because it wasn’t designed for that discharge profile. Switch to ProCell Intense for high-drain applications. Also check that you’re not mixing old and new cells, or mixing brands.
ISSUE: Device performance degrades gradually instead of a clean cutoff. FIX: While the ProCell Constant is designed for a flat voltage curve, some devices are more sensitive to voltage drop than others. If your device starts behaving erratically, check cell voltage with a multimeter. A “dead” alkaline AA typically reads around 0.9V-1.0V under load, even though it still shows ~1.2V open-circuit. Replace the cell when performance degrades.
▌SYS.WARN – WARNINGS, HAZARDS & DISCLAIMERS
Do Not Recharge. This is a non-rechargeable alkaline battery. Do NOT attempt to recharge it. Attempting to recharge alkaline cells can cause gas buildup, leakage, rupture, or explosion. If you need rechargeable AA cells, use purpose-built NiMH rechargeables (such as Eneloop or similar).
Do Not Short-Circuit. Do not allow the positive and negative terminals to contact each other or any conductive material simultaneously. Short-circuiting an alkaline cell can cause rapid heating, leakage, or rupture.
Do Not Disassemble, Crush, Puncture, or Incinerate. Alkaline batteries contain caustic potassium hydroxide electrolyte. Do not open, puncture, or expose to fire. Incineration may cause explosion. Crushing may cause leakage of caustic material.
Skin/Eye Contact. If battery contents leak and contact skin, flush immediately with water. If contact with eyes occurs, flush with clean water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention. If ingested, seek medical attention immediately. Call Poison Control (1-800-222-1222) if a battery is swallowed.
Keep Away from Children. AA batteries are a serious ingestion hazard for small children. Keep all batteries, especially loose cells, out of reach of children. If a child swallows a battery, seek emergency medical attention immediately.
Storage. Store in a cool, dry location between 41°F and 86°F (5°C to 30°C). Do not store in direct sunlight, high humidity, or near heat sources. Do not store loose batteries in drawers or containers where terminals may contact metal objects (coins, keys, tools), as this can cause short circuits.
Proper Disposal. Do not dispose of in fire. Recycle in accordance with local battery recycling regulations. Alkaline batteries are accepted at most municipal recycling centers and many retail battery recycling programs.
